Since the person who posted this failed to tell you, I will.
This area is located around the north pole - there is a chance this is a program glitch, though the only way to know for sure would be to either tap into a spy satellite or launch a power enough wireless camera into a polar orbit.
Hi, Although I do wholeheartedly believe that we will experience something amazing around mid-October, we can't really look too much into those Google Earth images. The satellites that take geographical data, including pictures, are known to take them in square patterns. What looks like a square on the globe, could very well be two areas taken at different times with different weather patterns etc... Can't wait till this happens!
